Technology That Shapes Every Appointment
Every treatment plan at Metropolitan Dental Arts starts with accurate information, and accurate information starts with the right equipment. Our Williamsburg office invests in digital imaging, in-house 3D printing, and same-day restoration technology, so appointments move efficiently without cutting corners on precision. The result is care that’s easier to plan, faster to deliver, and more comfortable to sit through, whether you’re in for a routine exam or a more involved procedure.
Digital X-Rays & CT Scanner
Digital X-rays and in-office CT scanning give our clinical team a complete picture of what’s happening beneath the surface of your smile. The CT scanner captures 3D images from every angle, making it easier to plan treatment accurately before any work begins. Because the images are digital, they’re ready to view almost instantly, without the wait that comes with traditional film. That speed also makes it simple to store and reference imaging at future visits, so nothing gets lost between appointments.
- 3D imaging from every angle for more accurate treatment planning
- Instant digital results, no waiting on film development
- Lower radiation exposure compared to traditional X-rays
- Images stored digitally for easy reference at future visits
Intraoral Scanner
An intraoral scanner replaces the traditional impression tray with a small handheld wand that captures a detailed digital image of teeth and gums. The scan appears on a screen in real time, giving patients an enlarged, easy-to-understand view of their own mouth alongside the treatment team. It’s a fast, comfortable alternative to thick impression material, and it gives our doctors a precise reference point for diagnosing issues early. Because the scans are digital, they also feed directly into planning for crowns, aligners, and other custom restorations.
- No messy impression material or trays
- Real-time, magnified view of teeth and gums
- Faster scanning with less discomfort
- Digital scans feed directly into crown and aligner planning
Same-Day Crowns & Veneers
Using Planmeca FIT technology, our in-house milling machine designs and creates dental crowns and veneers in a single visit. Both restorations are metal-free and tooth-colored, so they blend naturally with the rest of a patient’s smile rather than standing out. Instead of leaving with a temporary crown and returning weeks later, most patients walk out the same day with a permanent, custom-fit restoration. The materials used are built for durability, so the result is designed to hold up over years of normal wear.
- Permanent crowns and veneers completed in one visit
- Metal-free, tooth-colored materials for a natural look
- No temporary crown or second appointment required
- Durable materials built for long-term wear
3D Printing
Our in-office 3D printer allows the team to create custom surgical guides without waiting on an outside dental lab. Using digital images from our intraoral scanners and X-rays, we generate a design specific to each patient’s mouth and print it on-site, often in hours rather than weeks. This is especially useful ahead of dental implant procedures, where a precisely fitted guide plays a major role in how accurately the implant is placed. Bringing this process in-house keeps treatment moving forward without the delays that come with outsourcing.
- Custom surgical guides created on-site, not outsourced
- Designs built from a patient’s own digital scans and X-rays
- Shorter wait times ahead of implant procedures
- Keeps treatment planning and production under one roof
Surgical Guides
When it comes to placing dental implants, precision has a direct impact on how well the final result functions and lasts. Surgical guides help position each implant accurately relative to bone volume and the structures surrounding it, reducing guesswork during the procedure itself. Because these guides are created through our in-office 3D printers, they’re built to align with a patient’s mouth at the exact spot needed for surgery. That level of planning gives both our surgical team and our patients more confidence going into implant treatment.
- Improves implant positioning relative to bone and surrounding structures
- Reduces guesswork and adjustment time during surgery
- Custom-fit to each patient’s mouth through in-office 3D printing
- Supports more predictable, precise implant placement
Night Guards
Grinding or clenching teeth during sleep can gradually wear down enamel, crack teeth, and lead to more serious oral health concerns if left untreated. Custom night guards are designed to fit a patient’s unique bite, holding the jaw in a healthier position overnight. Because they’re built using our intraoral scanners and X-rays, the fit is specific to each patient rather than a generic, one-size-fits-all shape. Beyond protecting teeth from damage, many patients find they sleep more comfortably once a properly fitted night guard is in place.
- Custom-fitted to your bite using digital scans
- Helps prevent enamel wear, cracks, and jaw strain from grinding
- More comfortable and precise than over-the-counter options
- Supports better sleep alongside long-term tooth protection
